In a June 23 ruling, expected to be made final today, judge Richard Strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a Body of Elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders. Over the course of the past year, the Watchtower Society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case. In March , the church turned over a heavily redacted version of the letter. Opposing attorneys called the redactions excessive, rendering the document illegible. Judge Strauss then assigned a discovery referee to sit with the two sides. But having a referee involved didn’t solve matters. Repeatedly, the Watchtower Society has stated that it will not comply with the order. Watchtower has shown no effort or willingness to comply with the discovery order.

Deliberate, malicious lying; bearing false witness: First, a baptized Witness commits a serious sin. Second, he does not repent of his sin. Examining the list of offences reveals a number of areas hardly serious enough to merit complete isolation. Further, a substantial percentage of those disfellowshipped in recent times are for conscientiously objecting to Watchtower doctrine.

Their Kingdom Halls have contribution boxes in the back where a person might voluntarily and privately contribute money. This is despite their not practicing any official charitable works or giving that money back to their congregants in all but the worst of situations. They are rarely held in rented facilities. The encouragement was given that more contributions be made to make up for this. District conventions are a bit different; because of their size, they do require the renting of a stadium or sports arena.
Sep 18, · A more mature JW (let’s call him “Don”) who desires marriage and sees an attractive prospect (let’s call her “Sue”) will have to angle to make sure they are invited to the same social events which, depending on the congregation, may be few and far between.
Policies[ edit ] Advice to members[ edit ] The Watch Tower Society has published information on how to protect children from sexual molestation, such as the articles, Protect Your Children in the October 8, edition of Awake! These articles focus on prevention, and do not specifically state that a child or its parents should contact the police in the event of molestation. They also suggest that, in some countries, “the legal system may offer little hope of successful prosecution.
The Society maintains that this two-witness policy is applied solely to congregational discipline and has no bearing on whether a crime is reported to the authorities in countries where this is mandatory. Since , statements by two victims of separate incidents by the same perpetrator may be deemed sufficient to take action and impose internal sanctions.
DNA evidence, medical reports, or information from forensic experts or police that proves sexual abuse may possibly be accepted as a valid “second witness”, however critics argue that, without mandatory reporting for all accusations of abuse regardless of the local laws, such evidence could remain undetected. Elders are encouraged to treat persons reporting this type of memory with kindness, but not to pursue the case unless further proof is found. Anyone found to have sexually molested a child, based upon the criteria established by the organization, and deemed by the elders to not demonstrate sufficient repentance is disfellowshipped from the congregation and shunned.

Are not JW’s only allowed to date with a chaperon and when ready for marriage? While some areas might have customs, such as Chaperons, it is by no means a requirement. I live in the south, in the my region, it is, or was, considered Good Manners and Respectful of both the young lady one was pursuing ,and for one’s self, to use a Chaperon.
As for length of Courting, I’ve known people, considered a couple, who waited years, and others who waited only months, to “tie the knot”. My sister got married in and had to have a chaperon for a year and a half on every date. Do you still have to have a chaperon when dating? As stated before, there is NO “set rule” about having a “chaperon”.
As Christians we do strive to keep things clean and “above board”. There is nothing wrong with the website looks nice actually. But what if someone on there is not a JW and you fall in love?? If I was to go on a site like this, and gave my heart to someone, but then found out they been lying to me the Whole time, hopefully I’d have enough self respect to END the relationship Right then and there.

Jehovah’s Witnesses attend weddings and funerals except under certain circumstances. The Witnesses have nothing against weddings or funerals, but they do have strict religious beliefs that impel them to avoid certain activities and celebrations which, they believe, violate moral principles found in the Bible. Celebrations Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t celebrate some events, including birthdays and Christmas, that they say resemble paganism more than Christian belief.
So some may conclude that the Witnesses are against weddings and funerals. But actually, the Witnesses attend weddings and funerals for essentially the same reasons that others do — to pay respects to and support the family of the deceased, in the case of funerals; and to celebrate a couple’s new life together as husband and wife, in the case of weddings. Past Examples The Witnesses base their reasons for attending weddings and funerals, as they do in other matters, on biblical principles and examples.
They note that Jesus and his early disciples mourned the death of people, such as the famous Bible character Lazarus, at gatherings that essentially amounted to “funerals. Crises of Conscience A Witness might not attend a wedding or a funeral if, for whatever reason, any ritual or service that the Witnesses consider “pagan” would take place. A pagan service or ritual, according to the Witnesses, would be anything that promotes ideas which go contrary to scriptural truth, such as the doctrine about people having immortal souls.
